A Very Special Love trilogy: Three Stages of Love

It is not surprising how this trilogy became a success in Philippine movies of our time. It is indeed entertaining, filled with comedy, drama, and musical (in third movie) scenes, and has a realistic yet dreamy approach to love relationships. While the audience easily relates to Miggy’s and Laida’s situations, the trilogy itself makes them believe in a better love the second time around. Another interesting aspect of the trilogy is how its highlights stages in love relationship, in Laida’s career (being an admin assistant to an advertising employee in New York who came back to help in Miggy’s business) and in Miggy’s work and family life (in the first movie it is known that Miggy manages the company owned by his father, who died in the third movie leaving the company in debt).

A movie about courtship and early stages of Laida’s relationship with Miggy. Laida applies for a job as Miggy’s assistant – a famous corporate figure whom she’s had a crush on since sixteen. Overall Rating 4.75/5 stars (9.5/10)

  • You Changed My Life

A film based on struggles in Laida and Miggy’s life as a couple. Misunderstandings between the lovebirds occur, with Laida being an over-demanding and clingy person who cannot easily understand Miggy’s hectic career as the firm’s manager.

Overall Rating 4.75/5 stars (9.5/10)

  • It Takes A Man and A Woman

Release Date late March-early April 2013

The final movie wherein Laida previously breaks up with Miggy, and now an advertising employee in New York, comes back to the Philippines and works with Miggy as a director. This is to prevent the firm from collapsing, resulting from the death of company founder and Miggy’s late father. The ex-lovebirds are on the verge of getting back together, as they both travel in New York for business purposes.

Overall Rating 4.95/5 stars (9.9/10)

I would definitely recommend these movies to my Filipino friends worldwide. I would also let my foreign friends to have a go, and prove to them that the trilogy is one of my reasons for being a proud Filipina.
